F. (1843 - 7 OCT 1915) Jefferson F.
Cannon, Post Master of Tenino, Wash., died Oct. 7, 1915, after a
lingering illness caused by internal injuries received four years
ago in a runaway accident. Mr. Cannon was born in New York state in
1843, came with his parents to Walworth Co., Wis. He served through
the war in Co. H. Buffalo Co. short shooters. About 1871 he came to
Clark County, and with his brothers, engaged in lumbering in the in
the town of Washburn at what is still known as Cannonville. He was
elected County Clerk for a number of terms and for years was one of
the foremost political leaders in this county. In 1888 he went to
Washington where he engaged in real estate and other business, and
was recently appointed post master. He was first
married at Plainfield, Wis., to Miss Rozell in 1868. To them were
born seven children, all of who grew to manhood and womanhood, one
daughter, Mrs. Jennie Loomis, died in 1904. His wife died in 1908
and four years later he married Mrs. Malvina Ingalls, who survives
him. He was an uncle of Misses Mabel and Lida Cannon and J.F.
Schuster of this city, and he has many other relatives in the west.
Mr. Cannon was a prominent member of the Mason and A.O.U.W. lodges.
He was a man of public spirit and a force in the community wherever
he lived. Many old friends here will sincerely mourn his death.
